For a return visit to Santa’s Magical Kingdom, change one part of the evening: how you ride, what you notice, what you bring home, or when you come. You can keep the family tradition without repeating last year’s plan.
If our Kingdom in Eureka is already one of your family’s regular Christmas attractions in St. Louis, start with the part you’ve never tried. A wagon ride gives passengers an open-air view. An ornament or a Santa photo gives this year’s visit something of its own.
Revisit Christmas Attractions in St. Louis With One Change
Choose one change that your family actually wants. You don’t need to book every extra to make the evening feel different.
We call this the One-Change Rule. Use last year’s visit as your starting point:
| Last Time | This Time | What Changes |
| You stayed in the car | Old Fashioned Holiday Wagon | An open-air view, $18 per person |
| You wanted your own space | Private Wagon | Your own group, up to 12; $75 for two, then $18 per additional rider |
| You skipped the train | Santa Express Train | $18 per person; Monday through Thursday, November 23 to December 10 |
| You left without a keepsake | A hand-lettered ornament | A yearly addition to your tree, $18.95 |
| You always came on Saturday | A different night | Family-vehicle admission is $35 instead of Saturday’s $40 |
If the kids want the familiar drive, keep it. Let them choose an ornament afterward, or plan around Santa’s photo dates instead of changing the whole outing.
Trade the Car for a Wagon or Train
A ride changes the view while keeping the Kingdom your family knows. Book a train or wagon ride for two or more people, and we waive your vehicle admission fee.
Compare the formats before choosing a date. The train has a shorter season, and the two wagon options have different blackout dates.
The Holiday Wagon Opens Up the View
The Old Fashioned Holiday Wagon offers a 360-degree, unobstructed view for $18 per person. Each departure accommodates up to 36 riders, making it an option when several relatives want to ride together.
For a family used to watching St. Louis Christmas lights through car windows, the open-air ride is a noticeable change. We provide blankets, and children age 2 and under can ride free on an adult’s lap.
The Private Wagon Is Just for Your Family
The Private Wagon seats up to 12 people and keeps the ride to your own group. It costs $75 for the first two riders, plus $18 for each additional rider.
For four paying riders, that’s $111, with vehicle admission waived under the ride-booking offer. Choose it when having the wagon to yourselves matters more than the lowest per-person price.
The Santa Express Ends December 10
The Santa Express Train runs Monday through Thursday, November 23 through December 10, at 5:30 and 6:00 pm. Tickets cost $18 per person, with seating for 24 riders in rows of three.
Make the train your first decision if it’s the change your children want. A later December visit can still include a wagon on an available date, but the train won’t be running.
Compare ride schedules and reserve your seats before setting the family calendar.
Finish the Evening With the Full Drive
Train and wagon routes skip the half-mile expansion, but ride guests can drive back through the Kingdom afterward. That drive includes the additional section, its dozens of scenes, and the third tunnel of lights.
We added that section several years ago. Families who visited before the expansion may encounter something they haven’t seen; families who came last year shouldn’t expect it to be a new 2026 addition.
The shorter ride route keeps the outdoor portion from becoming longer for families with young children. Your own car then takes you through the expanded section before you leave.
Bring the children’s letters if they want to use the North Pole Mailbox during that drive. For more about the displays themselves, see our guide to the Kingdom’s light tunnels.
Give Familiar Scenes Another Look
A repeat visit gives children a chance to notice details they missed before. Pick something that fits their interests rather than trying to remember every scene along the route.
For the child who loves a joke, watch the acrobatic elf’s rope-swing mishap in Elfland. Flying pigs near the Kingdom Doors offer another familiar scene to point out.
Animal lovers can watch for dolphins beside the car in the Tunnel of Dancing Lights. Children curious about how things work may prefer the Herb B. Elf Factory’s explanation of candy cane stripes.
The Gateway Arch replica has its own “fireworks” light display. Give that feature some attention if your family usually spends the drive waiting for the tunnels.
These are light displays within the Kingdom. For live Christmas shows in St. Louis, plan a separate theater outing.
Our full preview of the Kingdom covers the scenes in more detail. Use it to choose a favorite before arriving, then let the rest of the drive unfold without a checklist.
Bring Home Something That Belongs to This Year
A keepsake can become the changing part of an otherwise familiar visit. Choose the one your family will enjoy keeping, rather than adding every option to the evening.
Start an Ornament-a-Year Collection
At Kringle’s General Store, our elves personalize ornaments by hand for $18.95 each. Hundreds of styles include options for families.
Let this year’s choice reflect who’s coming or what the children like now. Ask our elves what wording the design can accommodate before settling on names or a message.
Our ornament wording guide can help you arrive with an idea. Kringle’s is reserved for Kingdom guests, so include browsing in your visit rather than planning a separate store trip.
Add a Santa Photo to the Family Album
Professional Santa photos take place inside Kringle’s General Store every night from November 20 through December 23. If your previous visits ended with the lights, this gives the return trip another purpose.
We text the finished photos to your phone; printed photos aren’t available. Personal phone and camera photography isn’t permitted during the Santa visit.
Check our Santa photo details before you come. Our St. Louis Santa photo guide explains how the visit fits around the rest of your evening.
Give Santa a Detail From the Return Trip
A personalized letter can carry a memory of the visit home. When completing the Letter from Santa order, include a genuine detail in the field about your child’s year.
Perhaps your child tried the wagon for the first time or proudly helped a younger sibling enjoy the outing. Give Santa that specific moment to draw on without scripting a promise about the final wording.
Choose the delivery option that fits your plans. Our Santa letter timing guide explains what to check before relying on a delivery date.
Try a Different Night This Season
Changing the date can be enough if your family wants the same drive. The Kingdom opens nightly November 20 through January 3, including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas.
Outside Christmas week, weekdays generally attract fewer visitors than weekends. A family vehicle also costs $35 on nights other than Saturday, when admission is $40, including tax.
When comparing Christmas events in St. Louis, match the date to the part you want to change. Santa photos end December 23, the train ends December 10, and wagon blackout dates vary by format.
Check our current hours and admission information before leaving home. Families making a longer journey can use our Missouri drive-through Christmas lights trip guide to plan around the drive to Eureka.
Check the Details Your Old Routine Didn’t Need
A ride booking adds an arrival step that a car-only visit doesn’t have. Arrive 30 minutes before your departure, except for a 5:30 pm ride, when the published arrival time is 5:15 pm.
Enter as though you’re driving through, then tell the team member at the Gingerbread House after the first tunnel about your reservation. Follow directions to park and check in inside Kringle’s General Store.
Rides cannot wait for late passengers. Before paying, review the selected ride’s blackout dates and cancellation terms; a family vehicle visiting without the ride waiver pays cash at the exit.
Questions About Coming Back to the Kingdom
How Can a Return Visit Feel Different?
Change one part of your Kingdom visit: the ride, date, or keepsake. Keep the familiar parts your family still enjoys.
Is the Half-Mile Section New for 2026?
The Kingdom added its half-mile section several years ago. It may be unfamiliar if your last visit happened before that expansion.
Is the Arch Feature a Downtown Fireworks Event?
The Kingdom’s Gateway Arch replica features a “fireworks” light display. It is part of the Eureka attraction, separate from events downtown.
Does the Ride Cover the Full Driving Route?
Train and wagon rides skip the half-mile section. Ride guests can drive through afterward to see that section and the third tunnel.
Can Ride Guests Still Use the North Pole Mailbox?
Ride guests can drop children’s letters in the North Pole Mailbox during the drive afterward. Bring the letters along on ride night.
Can We Take the Train After December 10?
The Santa Express ends December 10. Families visiting later can choose a wagon instead, subject to its schedule and available seats.
Do Families Need to Book a Private Wagon?
Families can book seats on the shared Holiday Wagon. The Private Wagon gives a group of up to 12 its own ride.
Can We Visit Only Kringle’s Store?
Kringle’s has no separate entrance and serves Kingdom guests only. Plan an ornament-shopping visit as part of your evening at the attraction.
Can We Buy a Kingdom Ornament Online?
Kingdom ornaments aren’t sold online. Choose your design at Kringle’s General Store during your visit and ask the elves about personalization.
Can a Santa Letter Include Our Return Trip?
Add a trip detail when describing your child’s year on the Santa letter form. That supplies personalization material without guaranteeing exact wording.
Does Booking a Ride Waive Vehicle Admission?
A train or wagon booking for two or more people waives vehicle admission. Ride fares still apply; check the selected format’s pricing.
How Do We Reserve Our Return Visit?
Choose a date and format on the Kingdom’s ride page, then book available seats. Check the arrival instructions before leaving home.
Choose This Year’s Change
Start with the part your family hasn’t tried. If it’s the train, choose a Monday through Thursday by December 10; for a wagon, check that format’s available dates.
Reserve your wagon or train ride to make it part of this year’s return. For a visit-specific question, use our planning form or call 636-938-5925.
