What Four Million Christmas Lights Look Like From Your Car

At Santa’s Magical Kingdom in Eureka, more than four million Christmas lights fill 35 acres with animated scenes, overhead displays, and tunnels you drive through. Your family can see the show together from your own car, then add cookies, Santa photos, or a holiday ride.

The number gives you a sense of the scale. The scenes give the kids something to spot: flying reindeer, a waterfall of lights, giant toys, and a North Pole mailbox for their Christmas wishes.

For a Christmas light show near St. Louis, you can keep the evening simple or build in a few extras. Start with the displays, choose the stops your family wants, and bring home a little of the excitement with a personalized letter from Santa.

What Do Four Million Christmas Lights Look Like Along the Route?

Four million Christmas lights give the Kingdom room for whole scenes, from a village in the trees to a version of the Gateway Arch. The view changes as you drive, with characters and illuminated details above and beside the road.

Look for these features during your visit:

  • The Kingdom doors and waterfall. Four-story entrance doors introduce the display, where a 300-foot waterfall of lights appears to flow from the sky.
  • Elfland. Elves live and work in a village among the trees, with flying reindeer overhead and an acrobatic elf attempting a rope crossing.
  • The Tunnel of Dancing Lights. Lighting animation surrounds the driving route in a tunnel as long as a football field.
  • The Kingdom’s Gateway Arch. Our illuminated version of the St. Louis landmark features light effects depicting fireworks.
  • Candyland and Toy Land. A life-size gingerbread house, the Herb B. Elf Factory, and oversized 3-D toys bring familiar Christmas ideas into the display.

The Kingdom also includes a Nativity scene. An expanded half-mile section adds dozens of scenes and a third tunnel, giving passengers more to watch beyond the familiar features.

That variety matters when you’re choosing an outing for children with different interests. One might watch for animals; another might be waiting for Santa’s loaded sleigh. You can point out a few favorites before leaving home, then let passengers notice the smaller details along the way.

Our preview of the Kingdom’s scenes introduces the displays. For a closer look at the animation, visit the Tunnel of Dancing Lights guide.

See the Show Together From Your Own Car

Our drive-through Christmas lights let you enjoy the display without walking the outdoor route. Children can stay buckled into their seats, and your family can keep the car comfortable for the evening.

That makes the lights a practical choice when you’re bringing a toddler or someone who would prefer less walking. Shopping, refreshments, and Santa photos are optional stops, so you can decide how much to add around the drive.

Admission covers a carload rather than charging each person in a family vehicle. The current rates include tax:

Vehicle Admission
Family vehicle, Sunday through Friday $35
Family vehicle, Saturday $40
12- to 15-passenger van, limo, transport van, or small bus $60

For four people in a family vehicle, the Sunday-through-Friday rate works out to $8.75 each for the drive. Optional purchases cost extra, so you can set your budget before deciding on treats, photos, or a ride.

Bring cash: you pay at the ticket booth as you exit. Kringle’s General Store has an ATM if you need one. Vehicles must fit within the published maximum of 12 feet high and 30 feet long.

Choose a Night With Time to Enjoy It

The Christmas lights in Eureka operate nightly from November 20 through January 3, including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve. Opening time is 5:30 p.m.; closing time is 10:30 p.m. through December 24 and 10 p.m. from December 25 onward.

For a quieter visit, choose an early-season weekday when possible. Christmas week can differ, and December Saturdays before Christmas have historically been our busiest nights.

Arrive at least 20 to 30 minutes before closing, with more time for any extra stops. That arrival advice isn’t a promise about drive time or queues. If meeting Santa matters to your children, choose a date through December 23, his last listed photo night.

You’ll find us at Jellystone Park St. Louis Eureka, off I-44 at Exit 261. Our current visitor information has the final approach directions and details for larger vehicles.

How to Make Four Million Christmas Lights Part of a Family Tradition

You can enjoy four million Christmas lights as a standalone outing, or give the evening a few moments your family can repeat each year. Choose the additions that fit your children’s ages, your budget, and the night you’ve picked.

Give the driver a different view. Our open-air holiday wagons let everyone watch the displays together. Public wagon and Santa Express Train rides are $18 per person; a private wagon starts at $75 for the first two riders, plus $18 for each additional rider.

Booking a train or wagon ride for two or more people waives vehicle admission. Rides follow a shorter route, and guests can drive through afterward to see the expanded section. Check the train and wagon schedules before reserving because dates and exclusions vary.

Leave room for a treat or keepsake. The snack shack bakes Mrs. Claus’ chocolate chip cookies each evening and serves hot cocoa. Inside Kringle’s General Store, you’ll find gifts and holiday decorations, including handwritten personalized ornaments for $18.95 each.

Put Santa in the family picture. Professional Santa photos take place inside the store nightly from November 20 through December 23. Finished digital photos arrive by text, so check the Santa photo details when choosing your date.

You don’t need to fit in every option. A lights drive and one chosen stop can give the evening a clear plan, with time to enjoy what brought you here.

Bring a Wish List for the North Pole Mailbox

The North Pole Mailbox gives children a part to play in the visit. They can bring a letter from home and drop it off as you drive by the North Pole display.

Write the letters before you leave, and keep them within reach for the mailbox. Younger children can draw their wishes or dictate a message to an adult. Older children might want to fold and address their own envelopes.

It’s a small preparation that connects home with the lights outside the window. The children arrive carrying something for Santa, then get to choose the words and wishes they leave behind.

The mailbox drop-off and our Letters from Santa service are separate. To arrange a personalized message for your child, a parent or guardian places an order online.

Make the Next Christmas Surprise Personal

A letter from Santa gives your child something addressed to them after the family outing. You supply the details that make the message personal, including their name, interests, and an achievement you’re proud of.

Choose something specific: learning to ride a bike, helping a sibling, or sticking with reading practice. A detail from their own year gives the letter meaning beyond a general Christmas greeting.

Our order form lets you choose a classic and warm, playful and funny, or heartfelt tone. You can preview the letter before completing the order and select the delivery option that suits your plans.

Letter Option Listed Price What It Includes
Email Letter $7.99 A digital letter, with delivery timing options in the form
Physical Letter $14.99 A printed, mailed letter with a North Pole postmark
Magic Package $27.99 A printed letter, Christmas ornament, email letter, and special North Pole postmark

Printed orders carry a listed $2.99 delivery fee. Review the final checkout total and current mailing cutoff before paying, especially if you’re arranging a Christmas reveal.

The preview helps you check names and personal details before ordering. Our order page also states a 60-day happiness guarantee and says we don’t sell or share your child’s information.

Choose the letter while the visit is still ahead of you, or arrange it after your night at the Kingdom. Either way, you control the separate order and can plan how your child receives it.
