Santa’s Magical Kingdom in Eureka combines a drive through millions of lights with optional wagon rides, Santa visits, and a stop for cocoa. For families planning a trip to drive-thru Christmas lights in Missouri, the practical question is how much evening you can fit around the miles.
Our display sits off I-44 at Exit 261, with family-vehicle admission starting at $35. From Springfield, allow about three hours each way. From Columbia or Cape Girardeau, allow about two.
Quick answer: We’re open nightly November 20 through January 3, including the holidays. You can stay in your car for the lights and pay cash as you exit. Choose your date around Santa’s schedule or a reserved ride if either is part of the trip.
What You’ll See at Our Drive-Thru Christmas Lights in Missouri
The Kingdom’s 35 acres include animated scenes, oversized toys, and a lighted version of the Gateway Arch with a fireworks effect. Our numbered display stops give children specific things to watch for along the route.
Here’s the preview:
| Display stop | What to look for |
| Kingdom Doors | Four-story doors, a 300-foot waterfall of lights, and the Blessed Nativity |
| Elfland | The elves’ village in the trees |
| Tunnel of Dancing Lights | Animated lights stretching the length of a football field |
| Candyland | Candy Cane Village and the Herb B. Elf Factory |
| Toy Land | Oversized 3-D toys |
| North Pole Mailbox | A place to drop off letters to Santa |
| Train and wagon area | The departure area for reserved rides |
The numbered stops identify display landmarks. Follow staff directions for parking, store access, and ride check-in.
Let each child choose something to spot before you arrive: the waterfall, the elves, or the giant toys. Our Kingdom display guide shows more of the scenes. For a closer look at the animated tunnel, see our Missouri Christmas light tunnel guide.

Allow roughly 75 minutes from Rolla, three hours from Springfield, and four hours from Joplin or Kansas City. The table gives rounded city-to-city planning estimates, with sample departure times for a 5:30 p.m. arrival.
| Starting city | Approximate driving time | Sample departure |
| Rolla | 1 hour, 15 minutes | 4 p.m. |
| Springfield | 3 hours | 2:15 p.m. |
| Joplin | 4 hours | 1:15 p.m. |
| Columbia | 2 hours | 3:15 p.m. |

| Cape Girardeau | 2 hours | 3:15 p.m. |
| Kansas City | 4 hours | 1:15 p.m. |
Sample departures include a 15-minute cushion beyond the rounded drive time. Add time for meals, fuel, rest stops, weather, and an entrance queue. Check live directions from your own address before leaving; these estimates don’t represent current traffic or a guaranteed arrival.
From Springfield, Joplin, and Rolla, I-44 east brings you toward Eureka. Use our directions to Santa’s Magical Kingdom for the final approach from either direction.
A 5:30 p.m. ride requires arrival by 5:15 p.m., so leave earlier than the table suggests. For other ride times, arrive 30 minutes ahead.
What Drive-Thru Christmas Lights in Missouri Cost at the Kingdom
Family-vehicle admission costs $35 Sunday through Friday and $40 on Saturday, including tax. We charge by the carload, so your passenger count doesn’t change the family-vehicle price.
| Vehicle | Admission, including tax |
| Family vehicle, Sunday through Friday | $35 |
| Family vehicle, Saturday | $40 |
| 12- to 15-passenger van | $60 |
| Limo or transport van | $60 |
| Small bus within the vehicle limits | $60 |
Pay cash at the exit booth. An ATM is available inside the General Store, though bringing admission cash from home removes an extra task after the drive.
The public holiday wagon and Santa Express Train each cost $18 per person. Children 2 and under ride free on an adult’s lap. Booking a wagon or train ride for two or more people waives your vehicle admission fee.
For example, two paid public-wagon seats cost $36, with vehicle admission waived. Four paid seats cost $72. Choose based on how your family wants to see the lights, and budget separately for snacks, ornaments, and Santa photos.
Plan Your Missouri Lights Trip to Eureka
Build the Evening Around Your Reserved Ride
A reserved ride gives your trip a fixed arrival time. Check availability before choosing the date, especially if you’re coordinating a long drive or meeting relatives.
The Santa Express Train runs Monday through Thursday, November 23 through December 10, with departures at 5:30 and 6 p.m. Public wagon rides have their own start times and several December blackout dates. Their current schedules and booking details explain the differences.
For ride check-in, enter as though you’re driving through the show. After the first light tunnel, tell the team member at the Gingerbread House that you have a reservation. Staff will direct you to parking; check in at the desk inside Kringle’s General Store.
Arrive 30 minutes before departure, or at 5:15 p.m. for a 5:30 p.m. ride. Rides leave on schedule, and a late arrival doesn’t guarantee space on a later departure.
The train and wagon routes don’t include the newer half-mile section. Ride guests can drive back through afterward to see that section before leaving. That’s worth allowing time for when you plan the return trip.
Reserve a Wagon Ride for the Trip
Add Santa, Cocoa, or an Ornament
Santa visits Kringle’s General Store nightly from November 20 through December 23. If meeting him is the reason for the road trip, choose a night within that window.
Professional Santa photos come digitally by text; printed photos aren’t available. Outside cameras and phone photography aren’t permitted during the Santa visit. Check the Santa photo details for current pricing before budgeting.
Kringle’s offers handwritten personalized ornaments for $18.95 each. Choose a family ornament or let a child pick one to mark this year’s trip. The snack shack serves chocolate chip cookies, hot cocoa, and other refreshments.
There’s no separate entrance to Kringle’s General Store; it’s part of a Kingdom visit. Leave room for browsing without assigning every activity a rigid order.
Choose a Night That Fits the Trip Home
Our lights operate from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. November 20 through December 24. From December 25 through January 3, hours are 5:30 to 10 p.m.
Early-season weekdays generally draw fewer visitors than weekends, except that Christmas week can differ. December Saturdays before Christmas have historically been our busiest nights. A weekday can make the visit easier, provided the return drive still works for your family.
Use these dates to narrow the plan:
- For Santa: Visit by December 23.
- For the train: Choose Monday through Thursday, November 23 through December 10.
- For a wagon: Check its specific calendar before reserving.
- For a holiday gathering: The lights operate on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.
Our Thanksgiving lights guide covers that holiday’s planning details.
We recommend arriving at least 20 to 30 minutes before closing for the drive, and earlier for the store or other activities. For a long-distance visit, aim closer to opening so the evening has room for delays.
Bringing a Group Van, Small Bus, or RV
The maximum vehicle size is 12 feet high and 30 feet long. Check your vehicle’s full dimensions, including roof-mounted equipment, before setting out.
Large commercial buses cannot pass through the Kingdom. We offer other arrangements for tour-bus groups; call [636-938-5925 (line 6369385925)](tel:6369385925) before planning transportation. The $60 small-bus price doesn’t mean every bus fits.
For groups booking rides, the public wagon accommodates up to 36 riders. A private wagon seats 12 and costs $75 for the first two riders, plus $18 for each additional rider. Confirm the headcount and available departure before collecting money from the group.
Turn a Long Drive Into an Afternoon in Eureka
An afternoon arrival leaves room for dinner before the lights open. Build the day around how much driving your family can comfortably manage, particularly with young children or grandparents.
Our winter guide to Eureka has ideas for the hours before the visit. Check individual businesses’ holiday hours before relying on a particular stop.
For a family from Springfield, the return drive adds about three more hours after the outing. Decide your intended departure from the Kingdom before adding activities. Closing time gives you options, but it doesn’t need to become your target.
For nearby alternatives, use our St. Louis drive-through lights comparison. Other regions have holiday light shows too; Visit Missouri’s statewide directory lists displays around the state.
A Santa Letter for Children Staying Home
A personalized letter from Santa gives a child something to open when the road trip won’t fit this December. An adult can add recognizable details, such as a favorite interest or an accomplishment from the year.
Our Letters from Santa service offers email and printed-and-mailed delivery. Check the available delivery options and timing before choosing how to present it. It can also include a sibling or cousin who won’t be joining the outing.
